Instant Checkout in ChatGPT – shop directly inside your chat!

OpenAI today announced the launch of Instant Checkout in ChatGPT, powered by the new Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP) developed in partnership with Stripe.

With this feature, users in the US – even on the free version of ChatGPT – can now buy items directly from US sellers on Etsy, inside the chat itself. At this stage, only single-item purchases are supported, but soon multi-item carts will be available, along with integration of over 1 million Shopify merchants. OpenAI also plans to expand the feature to more countries.

The process is seamless: if the product being discussed supports Instant Checkout, you just tap Buy, confirm your shipping and payment details, and finish the purchase without leaving ChatGPT. All orders and payments are processed by merchants through their existing systems, while ChatGPT simply transfers the information.

The service is completely free for users, though OpenAI charges merchants a small fee.

Additionally, ACP has been open-sourced, allowing more merchants and developers to build integrations. OpenAI describes it as "an open standard for AI commerce" that is "powerful, secure, and easy to adopt".
